I just learned about a search site called Blingo. It uses Google but if you search using their site you are entered to win stuff like movie tickets or itunes music. The more friends you have listed the better chances of winning. When one if your friends win you also win. Just make it your home page and use it to search and you can win stuff. Rock Band Name Origins

Cool site with the origins of rock band names. Check out the site here. Very ugly site by the way. Here's a couple I thought were funny:

THE DEFTONES - Because when they started out, people thought they were so bad that they called them tone deaf - transposed to def tones.

FOO FIGHTERS - a term used by World War II pilots to describe strange flying fireballs they sometimes saw.

HOOTIE AND THE BLOWFISH - from the nicknames of two friends of singer/guitarist Darius Rucker - one with owl-like eyes (Hootie), another with the puffy "Blowfish" cheeks.

PEARL JAM - Eddie's grandma supposedly made a peyote (hallucinogenic drug) jelly/jam , which as kids they called pearl jam.

TOAD THE WET SPROCKET - A skit from Monty Python's Flying Circus which is about a weird rock band.

More Sad News...

Well more sad news... It was reported today that Steve Irwin "Crocodile Hunter" died. Mr Irwin, 44, was struck in the chest by a stingray's barb while filming a documentary on the Great Barrier Reef. "It's a huge loss to Australia - he was a wonderful character, he was a passionate environmentalist, he brought entertainment and excitement to millions of people."

Man I loved the Crocodile Hunter. The guy tempted fate on a daily basis but you never think anything bad could really happen to him. Read the full article here.

Long suffering parents of adolescents might not agree, but scientists claim that listening to rock music can boost your brain power. Researchers at a Scottish university believe that the sound of guitar-based rock such as Jimi Hendrix, AC/DC and the Red Hot Chili Peppers improves concentration and boosts memory.
