Woman dies of 'water intoxication' after radio contest

A preliminary autopsy states that a woman died of "water intoxication" following a water drinking contest for a Nintendo Wii. News10 in Sacramento reports Station 107.9 The End's "Hold your wee for a Wii" contest had contestants doing exactly what the title says. The winner was the person who didn't release their bladder the longest. According to the woman's co-worker, after the contest, "She said to one of our supervisors that she was on her way home and her head was hurting her real bad ... she was crying and that was the last that anyone had heard from her." The co-workers contacted the woman's mother later on to check up how she was doing and she discovered the body. No word yet on how much water the woman consumed. - joystiq.com

Sorry not trying to be morbid today with the death stories I just thought they were interesting.

Hunting dog hits trigger, kills hunter

A 28-year-old duck hunter was killed when he was accidentally shot by a hunting dog on an inlet of the Cumberland River in west Nashville, a state wildlife official said today. The man had gotten out of the boat to pick up decoys at the end of the day. A hunting companion, who didn’t have waders on, remained in the boat, where the other man’s shotgun lay on the floor.

“The dog apparently jumped back there and hit the trigger of the gun,” Taylor said.

The safety lock had either not been on or the dog hit the safety button — depending on the type of shotgun — and released it, he said.

The shotgun fired and blew a hole through the side of the boat, striking the man in the water in the lower abdomen, he said. - tennessean.com

Mashup Mix 2006

I just found this mashup CD online. It's freakin awesome! I especially love the Black Sabotage (Beastie Boys vs. Led Zeppelin) and Tricky Sandman (Run-DMC vs. Metallica) mixes. I am sure the RIAA will be after these guys so get it while it's hot. Oh and their is an explicit tag so be warned but it's too cool to pass on. I would have paid money for this if they asked. These guys are really talented.

Update: Just found 9 bonus songs that didn't make the album. Get them here.

Megatron CGI Render

Here is a first look at the full body Megatron mock-up for the upcoming Transformers movie. Sure doesn't look like the Megatron I remember. Hope it plays out ok.

Lord Stanley's Cup

I almost forgot... I went to a Nashville Predators game tonight and they had the Stanley Cup set up for people to check it out. It was amazing! Hockey's holy grail with great names like Brett Hull and Mike Modano of my beloved Dallas Stars. I forgot my camera and my phone so no pics sorry. I wanted so bad to grab it and run...

Oh and by the way the Preds won in overtime 5-4 against the league leading Ducks. Go Preds!

Apple iPhone thoughts

Right... so a quick post before I crash for the night. I just finished watching the Steve Jobs Apple Macworld Keynote and I am blown away by the iPhone. It's easy to look at it and think "who cares it's just another cell phone." But you, like I was, would be way wrong. It is combination of all of your digital devices. You can check out the specs at their website here but pictures do not do it justice. If you have the time to watch the keynote it is well worth it. You can find it here. I was floored. Just another reason I love being an Apple user.

Placing a Call with the iPhone

Using the iPhone as an iPod

Apple TV

It's real folks: we got 802.11 b/g AND 802.11n, USB 2.0, Ethernet, WiFi, HDMI, bunch of standard outs, plus a 40GB hard drive -- all powered by an Intel CPU. So resolution is only 720p -- looks like a few folks are gonna be out of luck, but TV manufacturers are sure gonna be happy to sell all those new sets. Not just one, two or three but five computers can connect to the Apple TV box, making a true hub for all your PCs. You can watch content stored on your rig -- movies, TV shows, photos, etc. -- and you can also pull streaming vid directly off sites like...Apple.com! Plus, the box will even grab content from PCs outside of your house -- finally, we can watch all the great swag that our rich can afford. Interested? You'll be able to grab one immediately for $299. - engadget.com

Apple anounces the iPhone

Apple just anounced the iPhone! I wasn't really excited about the rumors of this product but after seeing it I am really impressed. Check out the engadget post for tons of pics. Looks really cool but a bit out of my price range... and why is it every time I see a cool phone I am on the one carrier that doesn't sell it! Grrrrrr....

Star Wars Projector Shaped Like R2D2

This 1/2 scale remote controlled R2D2 has a projector stashed in his dome, capable of an 80-inch picture. And said controller is shaped like the Millenium Falcon. By the falcon's command, the sassy little droid can be driven forward and back and right down the trash compactor. The remote'll also spin his cute little dome piece around, trigger 11 R2 sounds from the movies. And there's a built in DVD player with stereo speakers, an iPod dock connector, USB and memory card slots, as well as AV inputs. The droid also has safety sensors to make sure you don't drive it down a trash compactor chute, or try to project it at a wall that's too close.

R2 pumps an 800 by 600 resolution image, is as bright as 1000 lumens with a 500:1 contrast ratio. - gizmodo.com

Oh yeah you know you want one....

Macworld 2007

Just a reminder Macworld starts Monday and Steve Jobs keynote is Tuesday. All new Apple products! The Apple rumor mill is buzzing. Can't wait to see what I will be spending all my money on in 2007.

LG's BH100 hybrid Blu-ray & HD DVD player

Finally somebody has taken the plunge and created a hybrid Blu-ray & HD DVD player. Everyone has been waiting for one company to make this product so this stupid HD format war will end. Now it doesn't matter if you have a player that can read both. I think now that the bomb has been dropped more companies will follow suite. Of course I'm not running out to buy one at $1300 but it is a step in the right direction.

LG has set the price for its BH100 combination Blu-ray and HD DVD player at $1,199. Available in the first quarter of this year, the company thinks it can resolve buyer confusion and push both high-def formats using Broadcom's chipset. 1080p and DTS-HD audio support are present and accounted for, but no word yet on other features, like 1080p24 or HDMI 1.3 - engadget.com
