Nintendo Wii Remote Killing Televisions

Wiimotes are becoming finely guided missiles, or so the internets would have us believe. The second set of destroyed TV pics comes direct from Michaela, who tells us that her seven year old girl was also playing Wii Sports bowling when her wrist strap broke as well, sending the controller rocketing toward the TV at a glass-cracking lawsuit-inducing pace. - engadget.com

More and more reports are popping up of people losing their grip on the controller and hurling it into their televisons. Looks like Nintendo needs to rethink their gimpy little wrist strap. That or people need to stop slinging the wiimote so freakin hard. There's even a video of this on youtube. Pretty funny stories.

Xbox Live Video Marketplace Prices

Microsoft is launching their Xbox Live Video Marketplace today. So here is a list of the prices and their MS points breakdown. This seems like a cool setup except for the stupid MS Points system. It's setup where you can never buy the exact amount you need, you always have to buy more. Freakin Microsoft... when are they ever gonna learn.
Prices are broken down into six categories: new release movie rentals, classic rentals, and television purchases, with high-def and standard-def offerings in each.
New release Movies

  • 720p HD movies -- 480 MS Points ($6)

  • 480p SD movies -- 320 MS Points ($4)

"Classic" feature film (Older Movies)

  • 720p HD movies -- 360 MS Points ($4.50)

  • 480p SD movies -- 240 MS Points ($3)

Television Show purchases

  • 720p HD television -- 240 MS Points ($3)

  • 480p SD television -- 160 MS Points ($2)

So far they've got 48 movies and 50 TV shows broken down between 2 movie studios and 12 television networks. - joystiq.com

Microsoft's AntiSpyware Tool

Many Microsoft Windows users who downloaded the recently released AntiSpyware program from Microsoft, or had it installed through an automatic Windows update, woke up to a surprise. Unintentionally, the heuristics of the software detected Internet Explorer as spyware, and removed the program from their systems.

Microsoft has pulled the program from its website until the problem can be corrected. Elias Weatherbee, a Microsoft representative, said the program was "only in beta" and that "a fix was forthcoming."

"It shows how powerful our AntiSpyware program is," said Weatherbee. "Not only is it able to remove spyware from the system, but also the source of most spyware. Our competitors can't match that."

Many computer users did not view this new "feature" positively. "I tried to check the weather this morning and all my little blue 'e' icons were missing. I couldn't get to the Internet at all. I guess I'll have to get a new computer," said Windows XP user Graham Newton.

Users of alternative browsers were happy to see Internet Explorer gone. Thad Freeman of the Mozilla Users Group said, "I've been trying for years to get rid of Internet Explorer. I never imagined that Microsoft would do it for me. I'm ecstatic." bbspot.com

Those are some of the funniest quotes I've read in a while.

Update: If you didn't know about bbspot.com it's a satire site. They just make these stories up but it was so funny I couldn't skip it.

Paintball minigun in development

Special effects man Rick Galinson (of Snakes on a Plane fame, no less) is currently in the process of creating a room-clearing paintball minigun and, as the video on his site shows, he's made some impressive progress. While it can't actually shoot paintballs yet, its 1200 psi of pressure is more than enough to provide an effective and, frankly, scary demonstration with nothing but air. - engadget.com

Wow... follow the link for more pictures. Also you gotta watch the video demonstration at the bottom of the page. Holy crap... you could light someone up with that thing. Killer idea!

Robin Hood stunt sparks NY 'riot'

"The three men, who called themselves the Modern Day Robin Hoods, entered Manhattan's Washington Square Park with a megaphone shouting: "What you are about to see will amaze you. We are mad Englishmen."
Daniel, a 6ft 6ins man dressed as Little John, who refused to give his surname, told the New York Post newspaper: "There's a real lack of courtesy in the world.

"The world would be a better place if people were more courteous, but the English are very sceptical, so we decided to come to New York." Oliver, the group's founder, said: "I want people to have a little more common courtesy towards their fellow human beings. We hope this encourages people to give something back." The men then threw the $4,000, made up of $1, $5,$10 and $20 notes, into the air, sparking the frenzy. Even children were reportedly stepped on, although no-one was seriously hurt." - newsvote.bbc.co.uk
